Developing Cultural Competence

CultureWise Projects

Globe Project

The All Ireland Programme for Immigrant parents was a cross-border, inter-agency initiative aimed at immigrant parents and practitioners working with them throughout the island of Ireland.

The Globe Project aims to promote positive parenting through the provision of resource and practice tools which can be used by practitioners in organisations that work with immigrant parents.

Migrants have become an increasingly visible client group for both statutory and NGO sectors. They have particular needs which require tailored response. There is a growing wealth of experience of working with immigrant parents but little opportunity to collate the experiences and information – much of which is being carried out on a local level.

SECAD

SECAD is an integrated development company that has successfully delivered rural development and social inclusion programmes  and initiatives in the East Cork area on behalf of the European Union and the Irish Government through the National Development Plan.

“The Cork County Development Board is charged with the co-ordination of services at the county level. This involves the implementation of key inter-agency economic, social and cultural projects. In that regard, Alvina’s informative and interesting presentation to the multi-agency Board helped to significantly advance the process of integration in Cork County. Members found her focus on Cultural Diversity Awareness extremely useful and recognised the benefits of proceeding with the integration issue on a county-wide level. I have found Alvina’s approach to putting her message across to be engaging, positive, practical and good-humoured.”
